Abstract

Abstract

Witteveen Kolk Syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. In the medical literature, 17 cases have been reported so far, and two cases in Turkey. Mild to moderate intellectual disability and delayed speech development are typical findings of this disease. This study presents a case with Witteveen Kolk syndrome with a colostomy different from previous cases. The patient was admitted to the clinic with fever, diarrhea, and general condition disorder. During hospitalization, his intestines protruded and he underwent a colostomy operation. Nursing diagnoses were determined using the North American Association of Nursing Diagnostics (NANDA) taxonomy. Nursing care for the colostomy care of the patient hospitalized in the clinic with the diagnosis of Witteveen Kolk Syndrome was planned, implemented, and evaluated in line with the Daily Living Activities Model. The patient's complaints of fever, diarrhea, and infection disappeared. It has been observed that the application of the daily life activities model in the nursing process increases the quality of care.
