This research was conducted with the aim of examining the influence of social media usage during disasters on death anxiety. This descriptive study's sample consisted of 427 students attending health services vocational schools and faculty of health sciences at three different state universities. The research data were collected using a Socio-Demographic Data Form, Social Media Use Purposes Scale (SMUPS) and Death Anxiety Scale (DAS). The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, Pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA test, Tukey test, and a significance level of p < 0.05. The individuals' average score on the DAS was found to be 58.91 ± 21.23, and the average score on the SMUPS was 39.56 ± 6.30. A moderate positive correlation was found between the Social Media Use Purposes Scale and the Death Anxiety Scale (r = 0.243, p = 0.001). It was observed that individuals' levels of death anxiety increase as their social media usage during disaster periods increases. Since social media sharing during disaster periods can lead to individuals experiencing death anxiety, especially during such times, more conscious use of social media is recommended.
</trans-abstract>
