<p>This study explores the theoretical tension between political economy, meaning, and the subject within the framework of Karl Marx’s theory of alienation, with a particular focus on reinterpreting the dissolution of the collective subject on a historical and structural level. In Marx’s historical materialist approach, labor—central to social structure and class relations—loses its meaning not only on an individual level but also collectively, as capitalist modes of production evolve. In this context, the study investigates the construction of the historical subject in Marx’s theoretical framework, examining how alienation operates within relations of production and how it erodes the foundations of collective action. Capitalist relations of production dismantle not only the individual’s subjectivity but also the political and social agency of the working class as a historical subject, rendering meaning, action, and subjectivity structurally fragmented. This study will distinguish itself in the literature by reinterpreting Marx’s concept of alienation beyond the level of individual experience -as the systematic dissolution of meaning and the collective subject- and by addressing the theoretical tension between political economy and the subject on both historical and structural levels.</p></trans-abstract>
