Since 1968, not only Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders but also Ankara and Athens, the UN, the USA, Britain and NATO have tried within their capacity and in line with their own interests to solve the Cyprus problem. The basis of all talks and negotiations since then has been the political equality and cofounder partnership principle of the two Cypriot peoples so that neither of them should be in a position to impose its hegemony on the other.
