                            <p>Inthis study, semi-transparent Dy/Y-α-SiAlON ceramics were produced using sparkplasma sintering (SPS) technique. The effects of the production of the initialpowder mixture by two-stage high-energy milling method on the phasecomposition, microstructure and optical properties of translucent α-SiAlONceramics were investigated. In the first stage of the milling process, it wasaimed to reduce the amount of AlN based secondary phases (polypoids) whichcould occur in the final product by reducing the particle size before addingthe AlN powder to the mixture and to reduce the decrease in transparency due tothe variety of phases. The particle size distribution of the AlN powders beforeand after milling was characterized by laser diffraction spectroscopy.Microstructure and phase characterization of spark plasma sintered (SPS)α-SiAlON ceramics were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) andX-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques, respectively. The infrared (IR)transmission of the ceramics was investigated using FT-IR in the 3000-7000 cm-1wavenumber range. The results showed that the particle size of the AlN powderwas effective on the morphology, phase composition and optical properties ofthe α-SiAlON ceramics.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>Bu çalışmada, yarı saydam Dy/Y-α-SiAlONseramikler kıvılcım plazma sinterleme (SPS) tekniği kullanılarak üretilmiştir.Başlangıç toz karışımının iki aşamalı yüksek enerjili öğütme yöntemi ilehazırlanmasının yarı saydam α-SiAlON seramiklerin faz bileşimi, mikro yapısı veoptik özellikleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Öğütme sürecinin ilkaşamasında, AlN tozu karışıma eklenmeden önce tane boyutunun küçültülmesi ileson üründe meydana gelebilecek olan AlN esaslı ikincil fazların (politipler)miktarının azaltılması ve faz çeşitliliği nedeni ile transparanlıkta meydanagelen kaybın giderilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Öğütme işlemi öncesi ve sonrası AlNtozların parçacık boyutu dağılımı, lazer kırınım spektroskopisi ile karakterizeedilmiştir. Kıvılcım plazma sinterleme (SPS) tekniği ile üretilmiş α-SiAlONseramiklerin mikro yapısı ve faz karakterizasyonu sırasıyla taramalı elektronmikroskobu (SEM) ve X-ışını kırınım (XRD) teknikleri kullanılarakgerçekleştirilmiştir. Seramiklerin kızıl ötesi (IR) geçirgenliği FT-IRkullanılarak 3000–7000 cm-1 dalga sayısı aralığında incelenmiştir.Sonuçlar, AlN tozunun parçacıkboyutunun, α-SiAlON seramiklerin morfolojisi, faz bileşimi ve IR-geçirimiüzerinde etkili olduğunu göstermiştir.</p></abstract>
