Abstract
Organizations develop internal rewards and discipline rules in order to continue their activities efficiently. Establishing and implementing reward and punishment systems within the organization is an important management strategy. This study aims to reveal the status of school administrators in Turkey, receiving awards, being complained, investigated and receiving disciplinary punishment. The research is a descriptive study. Data were collected from 324 school administrators and assistant administrators in 2019, through a survey developed by Karataş, Aydın and Kara (2020). According to the research findings, in the last three years, almost half of the school administrators were rewarded, about one-third of them complained, about one-fourth of them was investigated and about one-tenth of them was sentenced. Within the framework of these findings, top managements in educational institutions prefer to reward school administrators more than punishment and give light punishments when punishment is necessary. The contribution of the concept of reward and punishment in management to the effectiveness and efficiency of educational institutions awaits to be investigated in depth.
