Professional perceptions of nursing students that are about to graduated: A qualitative study

Abstract

Objective: It is important to motivate students to increase their perception of profession in order to improve their perception of profession. It is important for vocational students to acquire professional perception in the education process, which can be considered at the beginning of the first formation in the university period. This class was conducted qualitatively to determine nursing profession perceptions of senior nursing students close to graduation.
Materials and Method: The universe of the study was formed by senior nursing students studying in the Nursing Department of a Faculty of Health Sciences in Ankara in the 2019-2020 Academic Year. The research sample consisted of 32 students who agreed to participate in the study. In the collection of research data, the pictures drawn by the students themselves and their own descriptions based on the pictures were used together. Data were analyzed from an inductive perspective. The analysis of the data was carried out by the researchers with hand coding.
Results: When the research data were analyzed, 2 main categories were determined for students’ professional perceptions. In the first category: image, healing, angel, care, compassion,male nurse; the second category: career, profession-science, communication. It was determined that the data were collected under the main themes of image and career. The sub-theme most frequently used by nursing students was healing. After the healing theme, angel, care, compassion and male nurse themes came. The sub-themes of the main theme of career were profession and communication.
Discussion and Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that nursing students’ perceptions of profession are generally positive. This result is pleasing for the nursing profession.

Mezuniyete ramak kala hemşirelik öğrencilerinin mesleki algıları: Nitel bir çalışma

Abstract

Giriş ve Amaç: Öğrencilerin meslek algısını arttırmaya yönelik güdülenmelerini sağlamak meslek algısını geliştirmede önemlidir. Meslek algısına ilişkin ilk oluşumun okul yaşamı sırasında başladığı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin temel eğitim sürecinde olumlu mesleki algı edinmeleri, mesleki yaşantılarında nitelikli hizmet sunumuna etki edebileceği için önemli görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada mezuniyete ramak kala hemşirelik son sınıf öğrencilerinin hemşirelik mesleği algılarını belirlemek amacıyla nitel olarak yapılmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini Ankara’da bir Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik Bölümünde 2019-2020 Eğitim-Öğretim Yılı’nda öğrenim gören son sınıf hemşirelik öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 32 öğrenci örneklemi oluşturmuştur. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında öğrencilerin kendilerinin çizdikleri resimler ve resimlere dayalı kendi tanımlamaları bir arada kullanılmıştır. Veriler, tümevarım bakış açısıyla analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin çözümlenmesi araştırmacılar tarafından elde kodlama ile gerçekleştirilmiştir.

Bulgular: Araştırma verileri çözümlendiğinde, verilerin imaj ve kariyer ana temaları altında toplandığı belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelik Öğrencilerin en çok yazdıkları ve resimlere döktükleri alt tema şifa oldu. Ardından melek, bakım, şefkat ve erkek hemşire temaları geldi. Kariyer ana temasının alt temaları ise meslek ve iletişim oldu.
Sonuç: Çalışmanın bulguları hemşirelik öğrencilerinin meslek algılarının genellikle olumlu yönde olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu sonuç hemşirelik mesleği adına sevindiricidir.
