Abstract
The purpose of the study is to develop a valid and reliable scale for Teaching Materials Used during Social Studies. The sample of the study is comprised of 160 classroom and social studies teachers who worked during the educational year 2008 and 2009 for a total of 12 primary schools- 2 private and 10 state schools- located in Sakarya and Istanbul. For validity purposes, learned opinion was received for face validity and content validity. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted for construct validity. At first, values from the KMO and Barlett tests were taken into account in order to carry out a factor analysis. Since KMO test suggested a variance of . 86 and Barlett Sphericity test a meaningful variation (χ2=1237. 99, p=. 000), it was decided that it would be appropriate to conduct a factor analysis for the scale. During the exploratory factor analysis, the items 7 and 9 were excluded from the scale since they distorted the construct. Afterward, a second factor analysis was conducted on the 16-item scale. The exploratory factor analysis concluded that the scale had a three-factor construct and was comprised of a total of 16 items. An overall look at the 16-item scale indicated that it accounted for 59. 4 percent of the total variance and inner consistency coefficient was . 89. All these values suggest that the scale is a valid and reliable one.
Abstract
Arastırmanın amacı, Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretim Materyalleri ile ilgili geçerli ve
güvenilir bir ölçek gelistirmektir. Arastırmanın örneklemini 2008-2009 eğitim
öğretim yılında Sakarya ve Đstanbul illerinde yer alan 2’si özel, 10’u devlet okulu
olmak üzere toplam 12 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 160 sınıf ve sosyal
bilgiler öğretmeni olusturmaktadır. Ölçeğin geçerlik çalısmalarında görünüs ve
kapsam geçerliği için uzman görüsüne basvurulmustur. Yapı geçerliği için
açımlayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıstır. Faktör analizi yapabilmek için öncelikle
KMO ve Barlett testi değerlerine bakılmıstır. KMO değeri. 86 ve Barlett testi
(χ2=1237.99, p=.000) anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği için ölçeğin faktör analizinin
yapılmasının uygun olduğuna karar verilmistir. Açımlayıcı faktör analizinde 7.
ve 9. maddeler yapıyı bozduğu için ölçekten çıkarılmıs, 16 maddelik ölçeğe
tekrar faktör analizi uygulanarak ölçek yeniden düzenlenmistir. Açımlayıcı
faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin üç faktörlü olduğu ve toplam 16 maddeden
olustuğu görülmüstür. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizinden elde edilen uyum indeksi
değerleri üç boyutlu Ölçeğin iyi uyum verdiğini göstermektedir. 16 maddeden
olusan ölçeğinin tamamı ele alındığında toplam varyansın %57.7’sini açıkladığı
ve iç tutarlılık katsayısının .89 olduğu bulunmustur. Bulunan bu değerlerin
ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğunu göstermektedir.
