Purpose and Scope
This policy has been established to define the ethical, scientific, and technical standards regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and similar technologies in works submitted to the Journal of Oriental Scientific Studies (Şarkiyat İlmi Araştırmalar Dergisi). Our primary objective is to preserve the principles of transparency, academic integrity, and author responsibility while benefiting from technological advancements.
Core Principles
- Limits of Ethical Use: AI tools may only be utilized as supplementary instruments for technical purposes, such as language editing, stylistic refinement, and improving text flow. Any data, analysis, or interpretation generated by AI during the creation of academic content remains entirely under the supervision and responsibility of the author.
- Transparency and Disclosure: Authors are obligated to disclose if AI technologies were used at any stage of their work. This disclosure must be clearly stated in the "Ethical Statement" or "Acknowledgements" section of the manuscript. The specific tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Grammarly, etc.) and the purpose of its use must be explicitly described.
- Accuracy and Verification: The accuracy of all information generated by AI (such as references, historical data, or translations) must be manually verified by the authors. The authors bear full responsibility for any incorrect, fabricated, or incomplete information/citations.
- Authorship Rights: AI tools cannot be listed as an "author" or "co-author." Since authorship requires original intellectual contribution and academic accountability, AI is regarded solely as a supportive tool.
- Data Privacy: When using AI tools during the research process, protecting personal data and avoiding privacy violations is essential. The confidentiality of shared data is under the guarantee of the author.
Obligations and Monitoring
- Authors: Authors accept all ethical and scientific responsibilities (such as plagiarism or data manipulation) arising from the use of AI technologies.
- Editors and Reviewers: The journal management reserves the right to use contemporary technological tools to detect undisclosed AI use and to reject manuscripts in case of a violation.
- Policy Updates: This policy may be updated by the journal management in accordance with advancements in AI technology and international publishing standards (such as COPE).
Journal Commitments
The Journal of Oriental Scientific Studies aims to integrate the opportunities offered by technology into its publishing processes in an ethical and responsible manner. The journal management may utilize AI-based analysis tools during the preliminary evaluation and technical control phases; however, final decisions are always made based on the expert opinions of reviewers and editors.
