COVID-19 PANDEMİSİNDE KANSER HASTALARINDA TEDAVİ VE BAKIM YÖNETİMİ: SİSTEMATİK DERLEME

Year 2021, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 92 - 103, 30.09.2021

Abstract

TREATMENT AND CARE MANAGEMENT IN CANCER PATIENTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Year 2021, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 92 - 103, 30.09.2021

Abstract

Aim: In this study, it is aimed to systematically evaluate the published studies on the subject of "cancer treatment and care management during the COVID-19 pandemic process.
Methods: For review, articles accessed using PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar and Cochrane databases in April 2020 were scanned. The screening was done using combinations of the keyword cancer, chemotherapy, Covid-19. 366 articles were found as a result of the search. The number of studies on the subject of the study was 50. 7 articles from the scanned publications meeting the study criteria were evaluated. The 27-item Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Declaration Form, developed to determine the reporting characteristics of the articles, was used to obtain the data.
Results: In the studies examined, patients diagnosed with cancer are considered to be more risky in the Covid -19 pandemic compared to the general population. Especially in advanced cancer patients with additional diseases, the risk increases even more and pneumonia due to Covid-19 infection has a more serious. Although there are no clear data on cancer type stage and anticancer treatment among other variables that increase the risk during the pandemic period, these variables are also thought to increase the risk.
Conclusion: Although cancer patients are considered a risky group in the Covid-19 pandemic, they should be considered in more detail because the disease progresses more seriously. For this reason, new policies are needed to protect oncology patients during the pandemic period, to reduce the risk of transmission and to ensure the continuity of treatment.
