Genç Yüzücülere Uygulanan Denge ve Core Antrenman Programının Yüzücülerin FMS Skorları Üzerindeki Etkisinin İncelenmesi

Year 2020, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 157 - 164, 30.08.2020

Abstract

Investigation of the Effects of Balance and Core Training Program on FMS Scores of the Young Swimmers

Year 2020, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 157 - 164, 30.08.2020

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of 6-week balance and core training program on the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) scores of swimmers, which will be applied to young swimmers on a regular and controlled basis. The participants in the study consisted of 35 volunteer (17 males, 18 females) athletes aged 14-19, who were licensed in Istanbul Swimming Club. Athletes are divided into two groups as Study Group (SG; n = 19) and Control Group (CG; n = 16). Beside the classical swimming training programs, the athletes taking part in SG were applied a combination of balance and core training programs, 3 days a week for a 6 week process, and the athletes in the CG continued their classical training programs. Anthropometric properties of SG and CG athletes such as height and body weights and body mass indices were measured. Functional movement screen tests were applied to athletes and the best scores were recorded. In the analysis of the data SPSS 22.0 package program was used. While it was determined that the athletes with SG showed statistically significant improvement in the right and left pre-posttest results of the FMS (p = 0.00), the FMS right (p = 0.02) and FMS left ( p = 0.04) statistically significant difference was found in favor of SG athletes in both sides (p <0.05). To conclude, the scores of the statistical analysis of SG athletes significantly improved as a result of the balance and core training program applied for 6 weeks in our study. Thus, in order to practice the movement patterns properly, applying a combination of balance and core training programs are recommended.
