Bu çalışma, üniversite gençliğinin değer yönelimleri konusunda yapılmış bir dizi ampirik araştırma neticesinde ortaya çıkan bulguların işaret ettiği değer yönelimi değişiminin nedenlerini özellikle aile gibi kök bir dinamiğe yönelerek anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Aile sosyalizasyonun ilk basamağı olarak doğumdan yaşamın sonuna değin bireylerin hayatı üzerinde etkisi tartışmasız ilk kurumdur. Ancak modernleşme sürecinin aile kurumuna etkisiyle bireylerin hayatındaki bahsedilen bu güçlü pozisyonun giderek azaldığı sıklıkla ifade edilmektedir. Çalışma gençlerin yetiştiği, çoğunlukla halen aynı evi paylaştığı ailelerin değersel yapısının anlaşılması ve daha sonra detaylı karşılaştırma yapabilmeyi mümkün kılabilmesi açısından önemli görülerek, aile ile ilişkisi görece daha yoğun ve sık olan bekâr üniversite öğrencilerinin ebeveynlerine yönelmiştir. Çalışmada çocukları üniversite öğrencisi olan 925 ebeveyne Schwartz’ın (1992) Değer Yönelimleri ölçeğinin yanı sıra, aile yapısı, dindarlık düzeyi, siyasal görüş çerçevesinde yöneltilen soruların demografik değişkenlerle ilişkisi analiz edilerek üniversite gençliğinin genel olarak aile değerleri profili çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular aynı ölçme araçlarının kullanıldığı gençlik araştırmaları sonuçlarıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre değer yönelimi ve kurumların değeri ölçek alt boyutlarında, gençlik ve aile değerlerinde benzeşen bir yapı görülmüştür. Gençliğin değişiminin izini sürerken gerçekte ailelerin değiştiği, gençlerin ise ailenin yansıması olduğu bulgusu bu çalışmanın en çarpıcı sonuçlarındandır.
This study seeks to explore the underlying causes of the shift in value orientations observed in a series of empirical studies conducted on university youth, with a particular focus on foundational dynamics such as the family. As the first institution of socialization, the family undeniably plays a pivotal role in shaping individuals' lives from birth to the end of life. However, it is frequently argued that the influence of the family has gradually diminished due to the impact of modernization on family structures. Recognizing the importance of understanding the value systems of families in which young people are raised—and with whom they often still share a household—this research aims to enable more detailed comparative analyses in the future. To this end, the study focuses on the parents of unmarried university students, who maintain relatively frequent and close relationships with their families. The study surveyed 925 parents of university students using Schwartz's (1992) Value Orientation Scale, alongside questions on family structure, religiosity, and political views, which were analyzed concerning demographic variables. The aim was to map the overall profile of family values among university students. The findings were compared with results from previous youth studies that employed the same measurement tools. The research revealed a convergence in the value orientations and institutional value sub-dimensions between youth and their families. One of the most notable conclusions is the finding that, while it is often perceived that youth are undergoing significant change, it is, in fact, the families who are evolving, with the youth reflecting these familial shifts.
