Teknoloji Bağımlılığı ve Dijital Detoks Turizmine Karşı Tutum ve Motivasyonlar: Turizm Akademisyenleri Tarafından Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Abstract

While digital technologies make our lives more comfortable and efficient, they also cause psychological, physical, and social problems. To get rid of these negative effects, individuals want to avoid digital technologies during their vacations and travels, even temporarily. Businesses related to the hospitality and tourism industry are creating products and packages for individuals who want to reduce or completely stop using ICT while traveling. With the emergence of such offers, a type of travel called digital detox has emerged. The aim of this study, which uses a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews with academics working in the tourism department, is to determine the technology addiction of individuals and to reveal the preferability of digital detox tourism as a niche market. According to the results of the study obtained through content and descriptive analysis, it was revealed that the use of digital technology in vacations and travels generally negatively affects the holiday experience. In addition, it was determined that individuals tend to participate in digital detox vacations to get away, relax and gain new experiences. Although it is unlikely that ICTs will lose their importance soon, the consumption of these tools should be controlled. At this point, the knowledge and awareness of tourism businesses can respond to individual demands and facilitate flexible adaptation to market conditions.
