<p>Ensuring justice in income distribution is among the top priorities of every state. One of the most critical factors affecting income distribution today is the banking system, the essential financial pillar of the financial system. With the increase in the development and depth of Islamic banks, which operate with the principle of interest-free as an alternative to the traditional banking system in economies, they have started to get more shares from the financial markets over time. Although this situation reveals the need to examine the effect of Islamic banking development on income distribution, it is noteworthy that such studies are scarce in the literature. In this study, the impact of Islamic banking development on income distribution is examined in Malaysia between 2001 and 2019 with the ARDL bound test method. According to the econometric findings of the study, while per capita income reduces income inequality in the early stages of economic development, it increases income inequality in the later stages of economic growth. Considering the income distribution relationship of Islamic banking development, which is the primary motivation for this study, it has been determined that an average 1% increase in the volume of financing provided to the private sector by Islamic banks reduces income inequality by an average of 0.036%. In this respect, it is recommended to introduce, develop and deepen the Islamic banking system, which positively contributes to ensuring justice in income distribution. It is also stated that if public authorities actively develop and deepen Islamic banking, Islamic finance can proliferate. This situation can play an essential role in reducing income inequality.</p></trans-abstract>
