Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Publication Ethics

The publication processes implemented in the GIBTU Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Sırat Journal serve the development and distribution of information in an impartial and respectable manner. The processes implemented in this direction are directly reflected in the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support the authors. Peer-reviewed studies are studies that embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important that all stakeholders of the process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, referees and editors) comply with the standards for ethical principles. Sırat Journal expects all stakeholders to bear the following ethical responsibilities within the scope of publication ethics.
The ethical duties and responsibilities listed below have been prepared by considering the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access (COPE Directive in Turkish) and the Editors' Workshop Decisions of Journals in Theology (20/01/2018).
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is a necessary element in the development of a coherent and respected knowledge network. This is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and their supporting institutions. Peer-reviewed articles support and shape scientific methods. Therefore, it is important for all parties involved in publishing, authors, journal editors, referees and publishing organizations to agree on the standards of expected ethical behavior:
1. Open Access Policy: Sırat Journal adopts the principle of global sharing of information, presents scientific research to the public free of charge and provides instant open access to individual users. It is offered to legal entities for a fee. In addition, every article published in Sırat Magazine is licensed under Creative Commons' Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative 4.0 International License.
2. Archiving: Sırat is regularly archived by adhering to the stated principles.
3. Publication and Evaluation Fee: Sırat Journal does not charge any fee from the authors for the article evaluation and publication process. No fee is paid to the authors.
4. Authorship
- The bibliography list should be complete.
- Plagiarism and fake data should not be included.
- The same research should not be attempted to be published in more than one journal, it should comply with scientific research and publication ethics.
Actions against science research and publication ethics are as follows:
a. Plagiarism: Presenting the ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures or works of others as their own work, in whole or in part, without attribution in accordance with scientific rules,
b. Fraud: To produce data that is not based on research, to edit or change the presented or published work on the basis of untrue data, to report or publish them, to present a research that has not been done, as if it has been done,
c. Distortion: To falsify research records and obtained data, to present methods, devices and materials that are not used in the research as if they were used, not to evaluate data that are not in accordance with the research hypothesis, to manipulate data and/or results in order to fit the relevant theory or assumptions, in line with the interests of the people and organizations that receive support. falsify or shape research results,
ç. Republishing: To present more than one work containing the same results of a research as separate works in associate professor examination evaluations and academic promotions,
d.Slicing: Presenting the results of a research as separate works in the evaluations of associate professorship exams and in academic promotions by breaking the integrity of the research into pieces, inappropriately, and by making multiple publications without attribution to each other,
e. Unfair authorship: Including non-active contributors among authors, not including active contributors among authors, changing the order of authors unjustifiably and inappropriately, removing the names of active contributors from the work at the time of publication or in subsequent editions, using influence without active contribution, using his/her name include among the authors,
f. Other types of ethical violations: Not expressing the supporting people, institutions or organizations and their contributions in the research in the publications of the research carried out with support, not following the ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting the rights of patients in their publications, appearing in a work assigned to review as a referee. to share the field information with others before it is published, to misuse the resources, places, facilities and devices provided or reserved for scientific research, to accuse completely unfounded, groundless and intentional ethical violations (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 8).
5. Author's Responsibilities
- All authors must contribute significantly to the research.
- All data in the article must be declared as true and original.
- All authors must ensure retraction and correction of errors.
6. Responsibilities of Arbitrators
- Evaluations should be impartial.
- Reviewers should not have a conflict of interest with the research, authors and/or research funders.
- Referees should indicate relevant published but not cited works.
- Checked articles should be kept confidential.
7. Editorial Responsibilities
- Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.
- Editors should not have a conflict of interest regarding the accepted or rejected articles.
- Only articles that will contribute to the field should be accepted.
- Support release or withdrawal of fix when bugs are found
The peer-review process is central to the success of scientific publication. It is part of our commitment to protect and improve the peer-review process, and Sırat Journal has an obligation to assist the scientific community in all matters concerning publishing ethics, especially in cases of dubious, duplicate publications or plagiarism.
When the reader notices an important error or mistake in an article published in Sırat Journal, or has any complaints about the editorial content (plagiarism, duplicate articles, etc.), he can make a complaint by sending an e-mail to siratdergi@gibtu.edu.tr. We welcome complaints as they provide an opportunity for us to improve, and we aim to respond quickly and constructively.
8. Revealing Plagiarism
Articles submitted for publication to Sırat Journal are subject to double-blind peer-review evaluation by two referees. In addition, it is confirmed that the articles have not been published before and do not contain plagiarism, through the programs used in plagiarism detection Ithenticate. Studies with a plagiarism rate of more than 20% (with the exception of references) are immediately rejected by the Sirat Journal Editorial.
9. Publication Policy
Sırat Journal is published by Gaziantep Islamic Science and Technology University. Sırat is a national, peer-reviewed journal, published in print and electronically in May and November, free of charge, open to access, in accordance with the principles of double-blind refereeing. The articles to be published in the journal should primarily be original and academic studies prepared using research methods suitable for their field. In addition, translations that contribute to the scientific field, promotions, criticisms and evaluations of books and scientific meetings are also accepted. In order to publish translated works, a permit from the institution that published the work must be submitted. If the published work is produced from the thesis, this should be stated on the first page of the article. In order for the articles to be published in Sırat Journal, they must not have been previously published elsewhere or accepted for publication. A maximum of one work by the same author is published in a number. Those who serve as field editors in the editorial board of the journal can send texts to the journal, but they cannot take any role in the evaluation of the text.
10. Broadcast Language
The written language of Sırat Journal is Turkish. Articles include English title, Abstract/Abstract (150-200 words), Keywords/Keywords (5 concepts) and bibliography prepared in ISNAD Citation Style. Articles written in English, Arabic and Persian can also be included in the journal. Articles written in Arabic and Persian must include a Turkish-English title, Öz-Abstract, Keywords-Keywords and Summary, and Arabic bibliography as well as a bibliography written using the Latin Alphabet. All Arabic and Persian texts are in 'Traditional Arabic' font, 12 points; footnotes should be 10 points. Articles written in English must include a Turkish title, Öz-Abstract, Keywords-Keywords and Summary.
11. Broadcast Frequency
Sırat Journal is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year (30 May - 30 November). (Article Acceptance Dates: 01 December - 30 April for the issue dated 30 May, 01 June - 30 October for the issue dated 30 November). A decision is made within 2-3 months from the last submission date on whether the manuscripts sent to the journal will be published and the owner of the study is informed.
12. Citation and Reference System Policy
Sırat Journal requires the Isnad Citation System 2nd Edition to be used in citation and bibliography writing.
13. Publication Evaluation Process
Studies submitted for publication are subjected to Pre-Check, Plagiarism Screening, Peer Review and Turkish-English Language Control stages. The work, which does not pass this process even though it has been examined three times during the Pre-Check stage, is returned to the author and is not processed again in the same publication period. Studies that pass the Pre-Check stage are sent to at least two referees in the relevant field within the framework of the double-blind refereeing principle. If one of the referee reports is positive and the other is negative, the article can be sent to a third referee or the Editorial Board can review the referee reports and make the final decision.
