81 Yaşında Kadında Yavaş Seyirli Torakal Spinal Menenjiom Ve Başarılı Cerrahı Tedavisi

Year 2024, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 23 - 26, 30.12.2024

Abstract

Slowly Progressing Thoracic Spinal Meningioma In An 81-Year-Old Woman And Its Successful Surgical Treatment

Year 2024, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 23 - 26, 30.12.2024

Abstract

Intraspinal tumors account for 15% of central nervous system tumors. The most common types are intraduralextramedullary tumors, particularly schwannomas and meningiomas. Meningiomas typically occur in the 6th to 7th decades of life and are generally benign, slow-growing tumors.
An 81-year-old female patient presented to the neurosurgery clinic with weakness, spasms, and balance disorders in her legs. As the loss of strength in her legs progressed, magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass in the intradural-extramedullary region. The tumor was completely removed through surgical intervention and identified as a transitional meningioma in the pathological examination. Neurological findings indicated complete recovery.
Despite the patient’s advanced age, the complete resolution of symptoms following successful surgical treatment highlights the effectiveness of surgery performed using appropriate techniques. Furthermore, the use of neuromonitoring during surgery played a major role in its success by providing neurophysiological information, enabling the tumor to be removed without complications.
