<p>Claude Lévi-Strauss argues that myths emerge as a product of the effort to understand social conflicts and contradictions. When the Oedipus myth is examined in this context, it reflects a symbolic representation of a universal story about human nature. Sophocles’s tragedy “Oedipus the King” is based on the myth of Oedipus. Claude Lévi-Strauss’s structuralist theory of myth-analysis deals with how literature shapes and changes myths. According to him, Sophocles’s tragedy changes the Oedipus myth at the individual and social level. On the other hand, the tragedy of “Oedipus the King” realizes this change based on the myth of Oedipus and allows us to understand the universal themes of the myth more deeply and to get to know the universal structures underlying the myths more closely. Tragedy deals with the myth from a different angle, while preserving its basic elements. In this study, a comparative analysis of Oedipus myth with Sophocles’s “Oedipus the King” tragedy was presented based on the structuralist approach of Lévi-Strauss and how Sophocles’s Tragedy, “Oedipus the King”, reshaped and interpreted the Oedipus myth was discussed in the context of the myth-literature relationship.</p></trans-abstract>
