Bu çalışmada Rusya’daki kentsel yerleşmelerin tarihsel, coğrafi ve demografik gelişim boyutları irdelenerek, bir yandan bu ülkenin kent coğrafyasının temel özellikleri ve kentleşme düzeyindeki bölgesel farklılıklar, diğer yandan da idari ve iktisadi fonksiyonlara göre kentlerin sınıflandırılması tartışılmaya açılmıştır. Sovyet ve Postsovyet döneminde Rusya’da kentsel ve kırsal nüfusun sayısal ve oransal değişimi, idari bölgeler bazında kentlerin coğrafi dağılışı ve kentleşme düzeyindeki bölgesel farklılıklar; farklı özelliklere göre Rusya kentlerinin fonksiyonel özellikleri ve sınıflandırılmasını ortaya koymak bu çalışmanın yazılmasının öncelikli nedenlerindendir. Postsovyet döneminde Rusya’da egemen olan sosyo-ekonomik ve politik kriz ulusal demografik krize dönüşerek kentleşme hareketini hem nitel hem nicel olarak olumsuz etkilediği bu çalışma ile tespit edilmiştir
In this study the dimensions of historical, geographical and demographic development of urban settlements in Russia are explained and on one hand basic characteristics of the country’s urban geography and regional differences in the level of urbanization, on the other hand categorization of cities according to administrative and economic functions are discussed. To display the numerical and proportional change of urban and rural population, the geographical distribution of cities in terms of administrative regions and regional differences in the level of urbanization, the functional characteristics and categorization of Russian cities in Soviet and post-Soviet period are the main reasons of writing this paper. In this paper, it has been ascertained that the socio-economic and political crisis in Russia during post-Soviet period has turned into a national demographic crisis and had negative qualitative and quantitative effects on urbanization transaction.
