Abstract

UCLA, Sosyoloji bölümünde Emeritus Profesör olarak görev alan Michael Mann, özellikle siyaset sosyolojisi alanında verdiği eserlerle dünya çapında tanınan bir akademisyen yazardır. Özellikle İktidarın Tarihi (1986, 1993, 2012, 2013) isimli dört ciltlik eseri pek çok dile çevrilmiş ve beşerî bilimler ile siyaset bilimi disiplinlerinde temel referanslardan biri olmuştur. Michael Mann ile Ege Üniversitesi Sosyoloji bölümü 3. sınıf programı içinde yer alan Siyaset Sosyolojisi dersi bünyesinde, dersi veren öğretim elemanı Dr. Eren Alkan moderatörlüğünde yapılan söyleşinin çevirisinin, Türkiye’de sosyal bilimler alanında çalışmalar yapan öğrenciler ve akademisyenler için güncel referanslardan biri olacağı umulmaktadır.
Etkinlik, “Siyaset Sosyolojisini Nasıl Okumalıyız?” başlığıyla 1 Haziran 2021 tarihinde çevrim içi olarak yapılmıştır. Sorular katılımcılar tarafından sorulmuştur. Bu çeviride bütünlüğü sağlamak açısından, sorular ve cevapları bakımından özellikle küresel güncelin önemli hususlarından pandemi ve sosyoloji ilişkisi ve sosyolojinin geleceği üzerine odaklanılmıştır.

How Should We Read Political Sociology in terms of Pandemic and Sociology: An Interview with Prof.Dr. Michael Mann

Abstract

Michael Mann, who is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Sociology at UCLA, is a world-known academic writer, especially with his works in the field of political sociology. In particular, his four-volume work entitled The Sources of Social Power (1986, 1993, 2012, 2013) has been translated into many languages ​​and has become one of the main references in the disciplines of humanities and political science. Within the scope of the Political Sociology course, which is included in the 3rd year program of the Ege University Sociology department, an interview with Michael Mann was held and moderated by Lecturer Dr. Eren Alkan. It is hoped that the translation of the interview will be one of the current references for students and academics, working in the field of social sciences in Turkey.
The event, “How Should We Read Political Sociology?” was held online on June 1, 2021. The questions were asked by the students. In order to ensure coherence and unity, this translation focuses on the relationship between pandemic and sociology, which is one of the important issues of the global agenda, and the future of sociology.
