Tomris Uyar is a storyteller from the 1950s Generation. A thematic literature map of all academic research on the author was created and it was determined that the stories of Uyar, who witnessed the periods of socio-political and socio-economic social ruptures in Turkey, were not addressed through social issues and the study focused on this thematic examination. In the stories she wrote after 1980, Uyar focused on the individual's attitude towards this change in the changing social structure and included themes such as corruption, depression, escape and friendship. The author, who has eleven story books, has a predominance of social themes in her books. While individual themes in Uyar's stories include themes such as escape, depression and sexuality, social problems such as marriage, friendship and lack of communication attract attention in social themes. The essence of the social problems the author addresses are values. The deterioration, corruption and loss of values (class and cultural) are Uyar's biggest problems. After the loss of values, the social problems the author touches upon most are society and women. In her stories, Uyar observes women with the effects of social and political changes and transformations, urbanization and migration in Türkiye. The author's characters are positioned as social beings even in the most individual subjects. Uyar addresses society through the individual, through the axis of the individual's value judgments. Uyar's stories are urban. The street is told as it is. The grocer, the taxi driver, the florist, the prostitute... Every moment of life and every person is a reflection of the society they live in in Uyar's stories. This situation forms the basis of the author's success in touching upon social issues. In this study, the social problems reflected in the stories of Tomris Uyar, who treats the individual as a reflection of society in her works, are examined within the framework of the social and political changes that Türkiye went through from the 1960s to the end of the 1990s and within the framework of periodic characteristics.
Tomris Uyar, 1950 sonrası Türk öykücülerindendir. Yazar hakkında yapılan tüm akademik araştırmaların tematik literatür haritası oluşturulmuş ve Türkiye’nin sosyosiyasal ve sosyoekonomik toplumsal kırılmalarının olduğu dönemlere şahitlik etmiş Uyar’ın öykülerinin sosyal meseleler üzerinden ele alınmadığı tespit edilmiş ve çalışma bu tematik incelemeye odaklanmıştır. Bu bakımdan çalışma özgün bir nitelik taşımaktadır. Çalışmada metin, bağlam ve karşılaştırma analizi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. İlk dönem öykülerinde yazar; ağırlıklı olarak sosyal hayatın birey üzerindeki etkileri, şehirleşme süreçleri, göç, evlilik ve kadın gibi temaları ele almıştır. 1980’den sonra yazdığı öykülerde ise Uyar, değişen toplum yapısında bireyin bu değişim karşısındaki tutumuna eğilmiş ve yozlaşma, bunalım, kaçış, dostluk gibi temalara yer vermiştir. On bir öykü kitabı olan yazarın kitaplarındaki tematik dağılımda sosyal içerikli temalar ağırlıktadır (evlilik, dostluk, iletişimsizlik…). Yazarın ele aldığı sosyal meselelerin özü değerlerdir. Değerlerin (sınıfsal ve kültürel) yıpranması, yozlaşması, yok olması Uyar’ın en büyük meselesidir. Değerlerin yitiminden sonra ise toplum ve kadın, yazarın en çok değindiği sosyal konulardır. Uyar, öykülerinde kadını Türkiye’deki toplumsal ve siyasal değişim ve dönüşümlerin, şehirleşmenin ve göçün kadın üzerindeki etkisi üzerinden gözlemler. Yazarın karakterleri en bireysel konularda dahi toplumsal bir varlık olarak konumlanırlar. Uyar, toplumu birey üzerinden, bireyin değer yargıları ekseninden ele alır. Uyar’ın öyküleri kentlidir. Sokak, olduğu gibi anlatılır: esnaf, taksici, çiçekçi, hayat kadını… Hayatın her anı ve her kişisi içinde yaşadığı toplumun birer yansıması olarak Uyar’ın öykülerinde yer alır. Bu durum yazarın sosyal meselelere değinmesindeki başarısının temelini oluşturur. Bu çalışmada, eserlerinde bireyi toplumun bir yansıması olarak ele alan Tomris Uyar’ın öykülerine yansıyan sosyal meseleler Türkiye’nin 1960’lardan 1990’ların sonlarına kadar geçirdiği sosyal ve siyasal değişimler ekseninde ve dönemsel özellikler çerçevesinde incelenmiştir.
