HIRPALANMIŞ KADIN SENDROMUNA YÖNELİK PSİKOSOSYAL MÜDAHALELER

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 281 - 303, 31.12.2022

Abstract

Psychosocial Interventions for The Battered Woman Syndrome

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 281 - 303, 31.12.2022

Abstract

Violence against women is among the most important public health problems experienced worldwide, threatening the biopsychosocial health of women and causing their injuries and deaths. Physical violence can be a source of battered woman syndrome as well as causing injuries and even death to women. Learned helplessness, anxiety, depression, cognitive distortions, and deterioration of interpersonal relationships can be seen in women who have been exposed to physical violence by their spouses/partners for a long time, related to battered woman syndrome in the cycle of violence. This study aims to examine battered woman syndrome and psychosocial intervention approaches. For this aim, the psychosocial intervention approaches that can be used in practices for battered woman syndrome, the cycle of violence, learned helplessness and physical violence, empowerment approach, solution-focused brief therapy approach and feminist therapy approaches are mentioned. It can be stated that psychosocial interventions considered within the framework of these approaches can have an important function in ending the cycle of violence and empowering them. In addition, feminist therapy and solution-focused brief therapy practices can support skills such as self-awareness and self-efficacy in women exposed to violence and suffering from battered woman syndrome. While providing treatment and rehabilitative social work interventions for women exposed to violence, it is considered important to evaluate the battered woman syndrome and to plan and implement psychosocial interventions.
