Osmanlı-Avustralya ilişkilerinin tarihi, Suriye ve Lübnan bölgelerinden Avustralya’ya yönelik göçlerin yoğunlaştığı XIX. yüzyılın ikinci yarısına kadar uzanmaktadır. Osmanlı Devleti ve Avustralya yerel hükümetleri, göçleri önlemeye çalışmışlarsa da ada ülkede yaygın olarak yapılan gezdiricilik mesleğinin göçmenlere çekici gelmesi ve servet edinme hayalleri girişimlerin başarılı olmasını engellemiştir. Osmanlı Devleti, Avustralya’daki tüccar ve vatandaşlarının hak ve hukuklarını koruyabilmek için bu ülkenin bazı şehirlerinde konsolosluklar açmıştır. Avustralya’da bulunan endemik hayvan ve bitki türleri Osmanlı devlet adamlarının ilgisini çektiği için Osmanlı ülkesine getirme girişimlerinde bulunmuşlardır. Avustralya’daki Osmanlı yerleşimciler ve tüccarlar Balkan ve I. Dünya Savaşı yıllarında Osmanlı Devleti’ne nakdi yardım göndermişlerdir.I. Dünya Savaşı’nda Anzak birlikleri içinde yer alan Avustralyalı askerlerin Gelibolu’daki serüveni, savaş sonrası ilişkileri de olumlu etkilemiş, Avustralyalı devlet adamlarıyla asker ailelerinin Gelibolu’daki anıt mezarları ziyaretleri iki ülke ilişkilerinin Cumhuriyet döneminde de artarak gelişmesini sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmada, Osmanlı-Avustralya ilişkilerinin ortaya çıkış, gelişme ve cumhuriyet dönemine uzanan süreci incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
The history of Ottoman-Australian relationships dates back to the second half of 19th century, when immigration from the regions of Syria and Lebanon to Australia gathered momentum. The Ottoman Empire and Australian local governments tried to take some precautions to prevent the immigration; however, as the immigrants found the profession of path-finding attractive they had dreams of having properties there, the attempts to stop them from immigrating to Australia failed. The Ottomans opened consulates in some cities of Australia to protect the rights of its citizens and merchants in Australia. As the endemic animal and plant species of Australia drew the attention of Ottoman statesmen, some attempts were made to introduce them into the Ottoman land.Australian residents of Ottoman origin provided financial support for the Ottoman Empire during the periods of World War I and the Balkan Wars. The experiences of the Australian soldiers within Anzac troops during the World War I in Gallipoli made some positive contributions to the relations developing after the war. As a result of the visits made by the families of the soldiers to the mausoleums in Gallipoli and those of the statesmen, the relationships between these countriesdeveloped more during the Republic era. In the current study, it was intended to investigate the emergence, development and progress of the relationships during the Republic era.
