Gazi Mustafa Kemal Paşa, daha Millî Mücadele’nin başından itibarenkurulacak olan Yeni Türk Devleti’nin siyasî rejiminin Cumhuriyet olacağını düşünüyorve bunun gereklerini yapıyordu. Ancak, kamuoyunda Cumhuriyet kelimesinin gündemegelmesi 1923 yılının yaz aylarında, yani Cumhuriyetin ilânından önceki aylardaolmuştur. Daha önce millî hâkimiyet, halk hâkimiyeti, millî irade gibi konulardadeğerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.1923 yaz aylarında ise yapılan yorumlarda Cumhuriyet rejiminin Türk milletininözelliklerine en uygun rejim olduğu ve aynı zamanda Türkiye’nin bu rejimi tercihetmekle Doğulu milletlere de örnek olacağı hususları vurgulanmıştır. Tabiî ki basının vekamuoyunun bu manadaki değerlendirmeleri hakikatin ifadesidir.
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Paşa, even from the beginning of the Independence War,has been thinking that the political regime of the New Turkish State would be the“Republic” and he has been performing what it could be done. Before this, someappreciations on the subjects such as national sovereignty, public sovereignty, nationalwill has been made.In the summer months of 1923, in the comments which were made, it wasemphasized that the regime of Republic was the most suitable for the characteristics ofthe Turkish nation and at the same time, by preferring this regime, Turkey would be asample for the Eastern nations, too. Doubtlessly, this kind of appreciations of the pressand the public were the statements of the truth.
