Giriş: Hasta ve hasta yakınlarına daha iyi ve kaliteli hizmet vermek, hasta memnuniyetini artırmak, eksiklikleri gidermek ve var olan problemleri iyileştirmek için, çocukları Ankara’da bir çocuk hastalıkları eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde tedavi gören ebeveynlerin çocuklarının tedavisini reddetme nedenlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Materyal ve Metod: Bu çalışmanın verileri, Ankara Dışkapı Çocuk Hastalıkları Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi’ne başvuran ve çocuklarının tedavisini reddeden ebeveynden elde edilmiştir. Araştırma öncesi Tedaviyi Reddetme Formu geliştirilmiş ve tedaviyi reddeden ebeveynlerden bu formu doldurmaları istenmiştir. Veriler Haziran 2009 ve Ağustos 2009 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır ve SPSS 13 for Windows programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: Üç aylık uygulama döneminde 30 ebeveyn (18 anne ve 12 baba) tedaviyi reddetmiştir. Ebeveynlerin çocuklarının tedavilerini reddetme nedenleri üniversite hastanelerine götürmeyi isteme (%20, n=6), çocuğun isteği (%20, n=6); uygulanan tedaviye güvensizlik (%20, n=6); ailesel nedenler (%13.3, n=4); hastanenin fiziki koşulları (%10, n=3); bilgilendirilmeme (%10, n=3) ve ekonomik nedenler (%6.6, n=2) olarak gruplandırılmıştır. Sonuç: Ailelerin sosyoekonomik özellikleri, uygulanan tedaviye güvensizlik, çocuğun tedaviyi istememesi, hasta bilgilendirme ve hastanenin fiziki koşulları ebeveynin tedaviyi reddetmesinde önemli etmenler olarak görülmektir. Bu nedenle hastane yönetiminin her zaman var olan koşulları geliştirmesi ve eksiklikleri gidermesi gerekmektedir. Ayrıca, psikolojik faktörler de tedaviyi reddetme üzerinde etkilidir. Bu nedenle psikiyatristler, psikolojik danışmanlar ve psikologlar, hasta çocukları ve onların ebeveynlerini hastalığa uyum sağlamaları için desteklemelilerdir.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the parents’ reasons for refusing treatment in Ankara Dışkapı Children Education and Research Hospital in order to give better and high-quality service to the patients and their relatives and to increase the patient satisfaction.Methods: The data were obtained from parents who applied to Ankara Dışkapı Children Education and Research Hospital and refused their children’s treatment. The Form of Treatment Refusal was developed for the study. The data were collected between June 2009 to August 2009 and analyzed using SPSS 13.0 Packet Program.Findings: Thirty parents (18 mothers and 12 fathers) refused treatment for their child during the 3-month pilot test. The parents’ reasons of treatment refusal were reported in several domains: the demand for referral to university hospitals; refusal of treatment by the child (%20, n=6); lack of confidence on the treatment (%20, n=6); familial reasons (%13.3, n=4); hospital’s physical conditions (%10, n=3); not being informed on treatment (%10, n=3); and economical reasons (%6.6, n=2).Results: Parents’ socio-economic status, hospital’ physical conditions, lack of confidence on the treatment, not informing the patients on treatment and child’s refusing may be important factors for treatment refusal. Therefore, hospital management must focus on these factors. Moreover, psychological agent has an effect upon refusing treatment, too. For this reasons, psychiatrist, psychological counsellor and psychologist must support the ill children and their parents to increase treatment compliance

Manuscripts submitted to the Turkish Journal of Pediatric Disease will go through a double-blind peer-review process. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two external, independent peer reviewers who are experts in the field, in order to ensure an unbiased evaluation process. The editorial board will invite an external and independent editor to manage the evaluation processes of manuscripts submitted by editors or by the editorial board members of the journal. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions. Articles accepted for publication in the Turkish Journal of Pediatrics are put in the order of publication, with at least 10 original articles in each issue, taking into account the acceptance dates. If the articles sent to the reviewers for evaluation are assessed as a senior for publication by the reviewers, the section editor and the editor considering all aspects (originality, high scientific quality and citation potential), it receives publication priority in addition to the articles assigned for the next issue.
The aim of the Turkish Journal of Pediatrics is to publish high-quality original research articles that will contribute to the international literature in the field of general pediatric health and diseases and its sub-branches. It also publishes editorial opinions, letters to the editor, reviews, case reports, book reviews, comments on previously published articles, meeting and conference proceedings, announcements, and biography. In addition to the field of child health and diseases, the journal also includes articles prepared in fields such as surgery, dentistry, public health, nutrition and dietetics, social services, human genetics, basic sciences, psychology, psychiatry, educational sciences, sociology and nursing, provided that they are related to this field. can be published.
