Çocukluk Çağında Yabancı Cisim Aspirasyonları

Year 2010, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 119 - 128, 01.08.2010

Abstract

FOREIGN BODY ASPIRATION IN CHILDHOOD

Year 2010, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 119 - 128, 01.08.2010

Abstract

Foreign body aspiration is the most frequent problem during childhood. It is among the most common reasons of unexpected childhood deaths. It is more frequent in children younger than 3 years of age, predominantly boys. Sudden onset of cough, wheezing and decreased breath sounds are the most common signs and symptoms of foreign body aspiration. Radiographical findings are not diagnostic, but the presence of unilateral obstructive emphysema or atelectasis is important clues. Careful and detailed history is essential not to cause delay in diagnosis. Treatment is very important for the aspirated tracheobronchial foreign bodies. Bronchoscopic procedure must be performed if there is a suspicion of foreign body aspiration. Routine preventive measures must be taught to caregivers in order to reduce the incidence
