                            <p>Many studies on statistical literacy mainly focus on assessing students&#039; literacy levels or developing models of statistical literacy. In contrast, this study aims to examine the questions that middle school mathematics teachers use in data processing field in the lessons in the context of statistical literacy. When considered in-class questions are crucial for student learning outcomes, exploring how well they reflect statistical literacy is considered important. In this research using a qualitative approach, four teachers who taught 5th and 7th-grade mathematics were observed during their lessons, and their teaching was recorded. The in-class questions collected through observations, audio recordings, and field notes were evaluated with an analysis based on four components: knowledge of basic concepts, statistical process, reasoning, and context. The results showed that teachers mostly focused on basic concepts, while there were fewer questions about reasoning. This suggests a need for professional development programs to help teachers improve their skills in this field.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>İstatistik okuryazarlığına yönelik çeşitli çalışmalar incelendiğinde büyük çoğunluğu, öğrencilerin istatistik okuryazarlık düzeylerini belirleme ve istatistik okuryazarlık modeli geliştirme üzerine odaklanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, ortaokul matematik öğretmenlerinin veri işleme alanında derslerde kullandıkları soruların istatistiksel okuryazarlık bağlamında değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda öğretmenlerin sınıfta kullandığı soruların öğrenci öğrenme çıktıları açısından kritik niteliği göz önünde bulundurulduğunda bu soruların istatistik okuryazarlığını ne ölçüde temsil ettiğinin araştırılmasının önemli olacağı düşünülmektedir. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımının benimsendiği bu çalışmada, ortaokul 5 ve 7. sınıf düzeylerinde ders veren dört öğretmenin ders gözlemleri yapılmış ve ders anlatımları kayıt altına alınmıştır. Ders gözlemleri, ses kayıtları ve ders sırasında alınan alan notlarından elde edilen sorular, “temel kavramların bilinmesi, istatistiksel süreç, muhakeme ve bağlam” bileşenlerine göre analiz edilmesiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Değerlendirmeler sonucunda, öğretmenlerin daha çok temel kavramlara odaklandığını, muhakeme bileşenine yönelik uygulamaların ise sınırlı kaldığını göstermektedir. Bu durum, öğretmenlerin bu alandaki eksikliklerini gidermeye yönelik mesleki gelişim programlarının önemini ortaya koymaktadır.</p></abstract>
