Cinema and Medicine The Doctor and The Disease Themed Films in Turkish Cinema

Abstract

Background: Special study modules (SSM) are recently introduced education activities in medical education and adopted by many medical schools rapidly to strengthen their core curriculum. The aim of this paper is to describe a SSM module titled “cinema and medicine: The doctor and the disease themed films in Turkish and World cinema” which was conducted in 2010-2011 academic year. Materials and methods: 100 Turkish movies were watched and analyzed during the SSM. Findings: The results showed that in the 100 films, movie physicians were more likely to be male (95%) Movies were categorized as dramas (83%), comedies (11%), horror films (4%) and action/ adventure (2%).Changes in approach to the identity of the doctor from 1960’s to present were observed Conclusion: Although the number of the doctor and patient themed is limited, there are still some movies which can be used form medical education.

SİNEMA VE TIP TÜRK SİNEMASINDA DOKTOR VE HASTA TEMALI FİLMLER

Abstract

Amaç: Özel çalışma modülü (ÖÇM) tıp eğitiminde son dönemlerde yaygınlığı artan ve fakültelerin çekirdek eğitim programını güçlendiren bir eğitsel etkinliktir. Bu yazıda Akdeniz Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesinde 2010-2011 eğitim döneminde “Sinema ve Tıp: Dünya ve Türk sinemasında doktor ve hastalık temalı filmler” başlığı ile açılan bir ÖÇM’nin tanıtılması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve yöntem: Özel Çalışma Modülü süresince Türk sinemasına ait 100 film izlenmiş ve analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular: 100 filmin sonuçları incelendiğinde, doktor karakterinin daha çok erkek (%95) olduğu görüldü. Filmler drama (%83), komedi (%11), korku (%4) ve macera (%2) olarak sınıflandırıldı. 1960’lardan günümüze filmlerde doktor kimliğine yaklaşımda değişimler gözlenmiştir. Sonuç: Türk sinemasında doktor ve hasta temasının ele alındığı filmler sınırlı olmakla birlikte, tıp eğitiminde kullanılabilecek filmler de yer almaktadır.
