COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF NB-IOT AND LORA COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

Considering the parameters such as low power requirements, long-range transmission capabilities, scalability, and inclusiveness of LPWAN technologies, their use in IoT applications is increasing. In this study, the performance of LoRa and NB-IoT on a site in Eyupsultan district of Istanbul is evaluated. While LoRa tests are carried out on the gas meters in the corridors; In the NB-IoT tests, observations were made inside the meter shafts behind the metal cover. RSSI and SF in LoRa; In NB-IoT, RSSI values are recorded. 14 for analyzes LoRa; Made on 16 packages for NB-IoT. While the results showed that the 30 packets sent reached the base stations, it was observed that the signal quality was not ideal at certain points. It is predicted that the packages will be lost when installed under these conditions. However, it should be noted that tests on more packages are necessary for a better observation.

NB-IOT VE LORA HABERLEŞME TEKNOLOJİLERİNİN KARŞILAŞTIRMALI PERFORMANS ANALİZİ

Abstract

LPWAN teknolojilerinin düşük güç gereksinimleri, uzun menzile iletim yetenekleri, ölçeklenebilirlikleri, geniş alan kapsayıcılıkları gibi parametreler değerlendirildiğinde IoT uygulamalarındaki kullanımları günbegün artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada İstanbul’un Eyüpsultan ilçesinde bir sitede LoRa ve NB-IoT teknolojilerinin performansı değerlendirilmektedir. LoRa testleri koridorlarda bulunan gaz sayaçlarının üzerinde gerçekleştirilirken; NB-IoT testlerinde ise metal kapak ardındaki sayaç şaftları içerisinde gözlemler yapılmıştır. Katlarda LoRa testlerinde RSSI ve SF; NB-IoT’de ise RSSI değerleri kaydedilmiştir. Analizler LoRa için 14; NB-IoT için 16 paket üzerinde yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar gönderilen 30 paketin baz istasyonlarına kayıpsız bir şekilde ulaştığını gösterirken sinyal kalitesinin belirli noktalarda ideal aralıkta bulunmadığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu şartlarda kurulum yapıldığı takdirde paket kayıplarının yaşanacağı öngörülmektedir. Ancak daha iyi bir gözlem için daha fazla paket üzerinde testler yapılmasının gerekliliği de belirtilmelidir.
