The issue of tafdīl is one of the controversial issues in kalām. Islamic scholars approached the issue of tafdīl, which means making a preference between various beings in terms of superiority, in different ways. While the majority expressed an opinion on the issue of tafdīl, some scholars hesitated on this issue and referred the grading to Allāh’s knowledge. In this context, the tafdīl between angels and humans constituted one of the primary topics of debate. Similarly, tafdil between prophets, sahāba, and other human beings was also a matter of dispute. In particular, the different preferences regarding the superiority of the sahāba over each other constituted one of the main reasons for the discussions on imamate, and the negative impact of these disputes has persisted until the present day. This article discusses the views of Muhammad al-Trabzonî al-Madanî (d. 1200/1786) on the issue of tafdil. In the article, Trabzonî’s views on the subject of tafdīl are analyzed in the example of his work Tamyīz al-fādil an al-mafdūl. Because the author declared the subject independently in this work. Document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in our article. Based on the aforementioned work, the author’s views on the subject were tried to be determined and evaluations were made regarding the determined views. The aim of this article is to contribute to the understanding of Trabzonî’s theological ideas and his theologian aspect. According to our findings, the author dealt with the issue of tafdil in six parts: among the prophets, angels, ashāb, tābi‘īn, women, and the children of the sahāba. On this issue, he did not agree with the ideas of sects such as Mu‘tazila, Shi‘a and Kharijis and adopted the Sunnī thought. In terms of style, he used quotations a lot. In fact, it is possible to say that the entire work consists entirely of quotations. Although the author also referred to other sources, he made many quotations from different works of ‘Ali al-Qari in particular. The author basically adhered to ‘Alī al-Qārī’s ideas. However, it can also be stated that he has relatively unique preferences. In conclusion, Muhammad al-Trabzonî al-Madanî, an Ottoman scholar who lived in the 18th century, draws a theological profile in this work that reflects the general characteristics of the period.
Tafdîl konusu kelâm ilminin tartışmalı meselelerinden biridir. Çeşitli varlıklar arasında üstünlük bakımından tercihte bulunmak anlamına gelen tafdîl meselesine, İslâm âlimleri farklı şekillerde yaklaşmıştır. Çoğunluk, tafdîl meselesinde görüş beyan ederken bazı âlimler bu hususta tevakkuf etmiş ve derecelendirmeyi Allah’ın ilmine havale etmiştir. Bu çerçevede melekler ile insanlar arasındaki tafdîl, öncelikli tartışma konularından birini teşkil etmiştir. Benzer şekilde peygamberler, ashab ve diğer insanlar arasındaki tafdîl de ihtilaf konusu olmuştur. Özellikle sahabenin birbirine üstünlüğü konusundaki farklı tercihler, imamet tartışmalarının temel sebeplerinden birini teşkil etmiş ve bu ihtilafların olumsuz etkisi günümüze dek varlığını sürdürmüştür. Bu makalede tafdîl konusuna ilişkin Muhammed et-Trabzonî el-Medenî’nin (ö. 1200/1786) görüşleri ele alınmıştır. Makalede Trabzonî’nin tafdîl konusuna dair mülahazaları Temyîzü’l-fâdıl ani’l-mefdûl isimli eseri örnekliğinde incelenmiştir. Zira müellif konuyu müstakil olarak bu eserinde beyan etmiştir. Makalemizde nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan doküman analizi metodu kullanılmıştır. Mezkûr eserinden hareketle müellifin konuyla ilgili görüşleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmış ve tespit edilen görüşlere dair değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Makalenin amacı Trabzonî’nin kelâmî fikirlerinin ve kelâmcı yönünün anlaşılmasına katkı sağlamaktır. Tespitlerimize göre müellif tafdîl konusunu peygamberler, melekler, ashab, tâbiîn, kadınlar ve sahabe evladı arasında olmak üzere altı kısımda ele almıştır. Bu meselede o, Mu‘tezile, Şîa ve Hâriciyye gibi fırkaların fikirlerine katılmamış ve Sünnî düşünceyi benimsemiştir. Üslup olarak alıntılara çok fazla yer vermiştir. Hatta eserin bütünüyle alıntılardan oluştuğunu söylemek mümkündür. Müellif başka kaynaklara da müracaat etmekle birlikte özellikle Ali el-Karî’nin farklı eserlerinden çok sayıda nakil yapmıştır. Yazar temelde Ali el-Karî’nin düşüncelerine bağlı kalmıştır. Fakat nispeten kendine özgü tercihlere sahip olduğu da ifade edilebilir. Neticede 18. asırda yaşamış bir Osmanlı âlimi olan Muhammed et-Trabzonî el-Medenî, bu eserinde, kelâmî açıdan dönemin genel özelliklerini yansıtan bir profil çizmiştir.
