Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the structure of dust particles ejected and emitted by the red supergiant star Betelgeuse and their contribution to the Great Extinction event. Photometric observations of Betelgeuse show that the starlight faded from December 2019 to February 2020. This work is important for our understanding of the evolution of red supergiants. Red supergiants are the leading stars of Type II supernovae. The study of the emission and condensation of dust grains from the eruption of such red supergiants will add to our knowledge and understanding of the phases red supergiants go through before they become supernovae. The fact that Betelgeuse has been comprehensively studied observationally contributes to this point. The data are taken from AAVSO and current literature searches are carried out for spectral and photometric data.
