Abstract

Odor and taste are important in vital functions. With taste-taking, human social life and dietary habits are affected all kinds. Besides, odor and taste have quite complex structures at the molecular level. It is claimed that most of the drugs used in the treatment of different diseases lead to disturbances in taste and smell as an undesirable effect. Changes in smell and taste sensations are not considered as medical necessity. This situation does not only cause the patient to live with taste or smell disorder, but also make person to be disaffected by the food and not to enjoy the social aspects of the person's life. The purpose of this review is to describe the effects of drugs on taste and smell sensations and to provide information about the drugs that can cause these effects.
