Tercüme hareketlerinin medeniyetlerin oluşumunda büyük bir etkisinin bulunduğunubilinmektedir. Türklerin özellikle İslam medeniyetine girdiktensonra Arapça ve Farsçadan, Tanzimat’tan hemen öncesinden başlayarak daBatı’dan yaptığı tercümeler hatırlandığında söz konusu tercüme faaliyetininbaşka dillerden Türkçeye doğru bir seyir izlediği görülür. Dolayısıyla Türkçedendiğer dillere yapılan tercümeler ve kültür ve medeniyetimizin kodlarının nasılalgılandığı meselesinin biraz ihmal edildiği gerçeğini kabul ederek bu konuyuseçtik. Çalışmamızda zorunlu bir kısıtlamaya giderek yalnızca İngilizceye çeviritercihlerinde hangi hususların gözetildiği hakkında değerlendirmelerde bulunduk.Bunların içinde tercümeyi gerçekleştiren ülkelerin mütercim veya yayınevlerinin”ideolojik“ ya da ”oryantalist“ bakış açısıyla hareket edip etmedikleri veyine buna bağlı olarak eserlerin edebi değerinin, yazarlarının popülerliklerininne derece rol oynadığı ile ilgili değerlendirmelerimiz oldu. Çalışmamızın sonundaverdiğimiz tercüme edilen eserlerin listesine bakıldığında yazarlarımızın bellibir kalitenin üstünde olsa da toplumcu-sosyalist kanatta yer aldığını görmekteyiz.Milliyetçi-muhafazakar ya da daha bilinen bir tabirle sağ ideoloji içindedeğerlendirilebilecek yazarların sayısının yok denecek kadar az olması çalışmamızın”ideolojik“ ve ”oryantalist“ bakış açıları başlıkları altında değerlendirilmesineneden olmuştur. Burada özellikle vurgulanması gereken bir husus iseKültür Bakanlığının 2005’ten bu yana yürüttüğü bir proje olan TEDA’nın,yurtdışı yayınevlerinde Türk edebiyatına ait eserlerin yayımlanmasına verdiğidesteği, herhangi bir ideolojik ayrım gözetmeksizin yerine getirmiş olduğudur.Bu nedenle biz de söz konusu çevirilerde uygulanan kriterleri 2005’a kadaryapılan tercümelerle sınırlandırdık.
We know that the translation movement has a major impact in the development ofcivilization. When it is remembered that Arabic and Persian translations afterbelonging to the Islamic civilization and translations from West shortly beforeTanzimat period, we see that such translation activities trace the way from otherlanguages through Turkish. Therefore, by accepting the fact that how perceiving thetranslations from Turkish to other languages and our culture and civilization codesissues are little bit of neglected, we choose this subject. By going into way of obligatinglimitation in our work, we reviewed about which points are taken into considerationin translations to English. Among them, we have considerations about whether thepublishers or translators of the countries performing translations have an ”ideological“or ”orientalist“ view or not and correspondingly how the literary value of the worksand the popularity of the authors are important on that way. When it’s looked at thetranslated works list that are at the end of our work, we see that our authors take placein the collectivist-socialist wing even though they are on a certain quality. Scarcely anynumber of writers who is nationalist-conservative or by an even known phrase whohas a righ ideology, has led us to evaluate the criteria as ”literary value“ and ”popularityof the author“ under the headings of ”ideological“ and ”orientalist“ viewpoint.Therefore, we focus on two main topics mentioned criteria. Another issue that shouldbe emphasized here is that, TEDA Project which is conducted successfully by Ministryof Culture since 2005, supports the abroad publicators for the publication of Turkishliterature works without any ideological distinction. For this reason, we limit thecriteria which are applied in question translation, with the translations until 2005.
