30 Mart 1432’de Edirne’de doğan Sultan II. Mehmet (1444-1446, 1451-1481), II. Murad (1421-1451)’ın oğlu olup, yedinci Osmanlı hükümdarıdır. Annesi Hümâ Hatun (öl.1449)’dur. Bursa’daki Hatuniye Türbesinin kitabesine göre Hümâ Hatun tartışmaların aksine Türk ve Müslümandır. Sultan II. Mehmet ilk eğitimini çocukluğunun geçtiği Edirne Sarayında aldı. Burada kimlerden ders aldığı meçhuldür. Daha 11 yaşında 1443’de Manisa sancak beyliğine getirildi. Giderken yanında lalaları Kasapzade Mahmut ve Nişancı İbrahim Bey vardı. Burada molla Gürânî ve Molla Ayas’dan dersler aldı. 3 Hocası Akşemsettin ile ilk karşılaşması ise muhtemelen ilk saltanat yıllarına rastlar.
Fatih Sultan Mehmet was born on March 30, 1432, in Edirne. He was the son of Murad II (r. 1421-1451) and Hümâ Hatun (d. 1449). He became the seventh ruler of the Ottoman Empire. The inscription on the Hatuniye Tomb in Bursa states that Hümâ Hatun was a Turk and a Muslim, contradicting earlier claims. Fatih Sultan Mehmet received his early education at Edirne Palace, where he spent his childhood. The identities of his instructors during this period are unclear. In 1443, at the age of 11, he was appointed as the Bey of Manisa Sanjak and was accompanied by his tutors Kasapzade Mahmut and Nişancı İbrahim Bey. He was also educated by Mullah Gürânî and Mullah Ayas. His first encounter with his teacher, Akşemsettin, likely occurred during the early years of his reign.
