<p>The growing discourse on “people of the future” and “professions of the future” often suggests that many current professions are at risk of becoming obsolete. However, rather than disappearing entirely, these professions may require adaptation to emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). This study explores the evolving role of communication science—an increasingly vital field in the digital era—by examining the preparedness of future communication professionals to integrate AI tools into their work. The research specifically investigates the questioning competencies of communication faculty students in utilizing AI technologies strategically and creatively. Using data gathered through an Ethics Committee-approved survey, the study assesses how effectively students engage with AI tools, how their questioning abilities relate to professional communication competencies, and the innovative ways they apply such technologies. Findings indicate a strong interest in AI among students, yet reveal significant gaps in their ability to formulate effective questions when interacting with these tools. This underscores the need to cultivate critical questioning skills alongside technological proficiency. The study thus contributes to both educational development and AI integration by emphasizing the dual importance of strategic inquiry and digital literacy in shaping competent communication professionals for the future.</p></trans-abstract>
