Abstract

Şeyhülislam Feyzullah Efendi, XVII. yüzyılda, zirveden inişe geçen Osmanlı Devleti'nde mesleği ve mevkisinin doruğuna ulaşmış, ancak devrin çalkantılarına, makamının şahikaları ile ruhunun derinlikleri arasındaki med-cezirler yüzünden mukavemet gösterememiş bir şahsiyettir. İlmî ve meslekî kariyerinin yanında siyâsî ve idâri kabiliyetleri ile de temâyüz eden Feyzullah Efendi, oldukça kritik ve tarihin dönüm noktası diyebileceğimiz bir zamanda üstlendiği roller ile dikkati çekmiştir. Hakkında yapılmış ilmî çalışmaların azlığı, Şeyhülislam Feyzullah Efendi aleyhinde birçok söz söylenmesine sebep olmuş, yaşadığı dönemi, siyâsî şartlarının ağırlığı ve hassasiyeti ile ele alan ciddi araştırmaların yapılamamış olması ise aleyhindeki yargıların kuvvetlenmesini netice vermiştir.
