Abstract

Sanırız, kitabın kendisi kadar yazarı da ilginç bir kişi olarak görünmektedir. Bu sebeple, kitabı hakkında bilgi vermeden önce, yazarın kısa biyografisinden söz etmek daha yararlı olacaktır. Yazar bir Yunan vatandaşı olmakla beraber, ailesi aslen Kastamonu'ludur. Kendisi 1956 yılında Atina'da doğmuş ve Atina Üniversitesi'nin Edebiyat Fakültesi'nden mezun olmuştur. Yüksek lisans ve doktora çalışmalarını, Paris, Brüksel, Munster, Şam, Kudüs ve Bağdat üniversitelerinde yapmış. Çalışmaları antik diller, tarih, felsefe, arkeoloji, din ve edebiyat alanlarını kapsamakta ve kendisinin belirttiğine göre, Yunanca'dan başka, İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca, Rusça, İtalyanca, İspanyolca, Arapça, Farsça, Modern İbranice ve Türkçe bilmektedir. Yazar Türkiye'de de bulunmuş ve 1986 yılında Abdi İpekçi Gazetecilik Ödülü'nü almıştır.
