Scream, as a concept, has been a tool of expression and criticism in every society. With modernism, fractures and changes began in art. This situation has turned into questioning poststructural and existential problems in the artists' works. Edvard Munch's painting The Scream is thought to be an important work that triggered breaks in both modernism and postmodernism. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to become aware of the poststructural discourses that emerge in Munch's painting The Scream. In addition, revealing the underlying reasons why artists use scream as a tool of expression is another aim of the research. Work analysis of Edvard Munch, Oskar Kokoschka and Andy Warhol are the scope and limitations of the research. The reason why these artists were discussed in the research is that they question the scream in a poststructural and conceptual structure in their works. As a result of these artists' use of a critical questioning language towards society in their works, it is thought that they support current ideas about the problem of human existence. Therefore, it is hoped that researching the artists subject to the research will clarify the knowledge of postmodern discourses. The problems of the research can be listed as follows: What is the connection between the concept of scream and the social structure? What is the relationship between poststructural discourses and the deconstruction of the scream? Why is Edvard Munch's painting The Scream important in terms of modernism and postmodernism? What do the works of Edvard Munch, Oskar Kokoschka and Andy Warhol have in common? How to explain the philosophical relevance of the scream as a social indicator? It is thought that revealing the answers to such questions will help the emergence of postmodern discourses. As a result of the research, it will be realized what kind of transformations and changes social events trigger in the works of artists.
Modernizmle birlikte sanatta çeşitli kırılmalar başlamış, kimi sanatçılar eserlerini postyapısal ve varolusal problemlerin sorgulanmasına dönüştürmüştür. Etkili bir ifade ve eleştiri aracı olan çığlık edimi de bu bağlamda başvurulan unsurlardan biridir. Geniş bir kültürel etki alanına sahip olan Edvard Munch’un Çığlık isimli resmi bu araştırmada bir başlangıç noktası olarak alınmış ve resimde ortaya çıkan postyapısal söylemlerin izini sürmek amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca sanatçıların çığlığı bir ifade aracı olarak kullanmalarının altında yatan nedenlerin açığa çıkarılması, araştırmanın bir diğer amacını oluşturur. Bu nedenle araştırmada Edvard Munch’un yanısıra eserlerinde çığlık edimini bir eleştiri olarak izleyiciye yansıtan ve kavramsal bir yapıda sorgulanmasını sağlayan Oscar Kokoscka, Francis Bacon ve Andy Warhol’un da eser analizlerine yer verilerek kapsam ve sınırlar genişletilmiştir. Bu sanatçıların eserlerinde topluma yönelik eleştirel bir sorgulama dili kullanmalarının bir sonucu olarak, insanın varlık problemine dönük güncel fikirleri desteklediği düşünülmektedir. Araştırmanın problemleri şu şekilde sıralanabilir: Çığlık ediminin hem sosyolojik yapıyla hem de felsefi bağlamda nasıl bir ilişkisi vardır? Postyapısal söylemler ve çığlığın yapıbozumu arasında nasıl bir ilişki vardır? Edvard Munch’un Çığlık isimli resmi modernizm ve posmodernizm açısından neden önem taşımaktadır?
