<p>This play evolves from the idea of an academic article into a personal and staged confrontation. The main character, Rami, wants to write a paper on the literary turn in anthropology while alone in the backstage room of a café’s theatre, but instead, he enters into a dialogue with books and the surrounding silence. First, Sophie Tamas’s Life After Leaving brings trauma and rupture onto the stage; instead of writing, Rami begins to listen to the silence. Then, Writing Culture by James Clifford and George Marcus appears and reminds him that academic texts are always incomplete and biased. As Rami tries to make his own brokenness visible, Ruth Behar’s The Vulnerable Observer emphasizes the emotional dimension of testimony. Writing is as much experiential labor as it is intellectual. Rami begins to perform what he cannot write; the stage becomes a space not of representation but of witnessing. Victor Turner’s From Ritual to Theatre reminds him of the knowledge of the body and the liminal nature of theatre. Rami takes a mask—not to hide himself, but to see himself. Finally, with Rosaldo’s Culture and Truth, writing becomes woven with loss and mourning; crying turns into a form of knowledge. Rami gives up writing; emptiness and silence become carriers of meaning, and the play ends at the limits of writing.</p></trans-abstract>

Başkarakter Rami, bir kafenin tiyatrosunun arka odasında antropolojideki edebi dönüşüme dair bir yazı yazmak isterken kitaplarla ve sessizlikle diyaloğa girer. İlk olarak Sophie Tamas’ın Life After Leaving kitabı travmayı ve kopuşu sahneye taşır; Rami yazmak yerine sessizliği dinler. Ardından James Clifford ve George Marcus’un kitabı Writing Culture gelir ve akademik metinlerin her zaman eksik ve taraflı olduğunu hatırlatır. Rami kendi kırıklığını görünür kılmaya çalışırken Ruth Behar’ın The Vulnerable Observer eseri tanıklığın duygusal boyutunu vurgular. Yazı, entelektüel olduğu kadar deneyimsel bir emektir. Rami, yazamadığını sahnelemeye başlar; sahne artık temsil değil tanıklıktır. Victor Turner’ın From Ritual to Theatre kitabı beden bilgisini ve tiyatronun eşiksel doğasını hatırlatır.
