11 EYLÜL SONRASI GÜNEYDOĞU ASYA DENİZ HAYDUTLUĞUNA ABD MÜDAHALESİ

Year 2024, Volume: 5 Issue: 1, 175 - 203, 02.03.2024

Abstract

U.S. INTERVENTION IN THE MARITIME PIRACY IN THE SOUTHEAST ASIA FOLLOWING 9/11

Year 2024, Volume: 5 Issue: 1, 175 - 203, 02.03.2024

Abstract

The coastal states such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore and the regional states conducted unilateral and multilateral struggles with maritime piracy that had re-emerged as a crucial problem in Southeast Asia at the end of the 20th century. The United States of America (U.S.) started to intervene in the prevention of maritime piracy in Southeast Asia considering her national interests after 9/11 within the campaign for global war on terrorism. This article aims to study the maritime piracy in Southeast Asia that has already emerged again as a global issue considering the historical and causal perspectives and also to analyze the reasons for increasing the U.S. influence and power in the region, and economic, military, and political interests behind the U.S. intervention examining the U.S. intervention into the Southeast Asian maritime piracy within the decade following 9/11.
