Shortly after the Ottoman Empire’s withdrawal from the war with the Armistice of Mudros, Albanian intellectuals in Istanbul organized themselves to establish unity and solidarity among Albanians and to provide mutual assistance and support, forming the “Albanian Mutual Assistance Society” (Arnavud Teâvün Cemiyeti). The Istanbul-based Society determined its purpose of establishment as defending the law of Albania, trying to integrate other parts of the country outside the borders of Albania into the homeland, and helping those in need. In this context, the Society carried out activities in the fields of politics, culture, education, etc. In this study, the Albanian Mutual Assistance Society, which was established in Istanbul during the Armistice Period, was discussed. In this context, the foundation stage of the society, and its efforts to expand its branch network and activities in the field of politics, culture and education were examined. It has been tried to determine the sensitivity of not only the Ottoman Government but also Ankara, the center of the National Struggle, towards the activities of the Society. Additionally, other societies and associations established by Albanians in Istanbul during this period were mentioned. The study relied on archival documents, the press of the period, and second-hand sources.
Osmanlı Devleti’nin Mondros Mütarekesi ile savaştan çekilmesinden kısa bir süre sonra İstanbul’daki Arnavut aydınlar, Arnavutlar arasında birlik ve beraberliği tesis etmek, yardımlaşma ve dayanışmayı sağlamak için teşkilatlanmaya gitmişler ve “Arnavud Teâvün Cemiyetini” kurmuşlardır. İstanbul merkezli Cemiyet, kuruluş amacını Arnavutluk’un hukukunu savunmak, Arnavutluk sınırları dışında kalan ülkenin diğer kısımlarının anavatana katılmasına çalışmak ve ihtiyaç sahiplerine yardım etmek olarak belirlemiştir. Bu çerçevede siyasi, kültürel, eğitim, vb. alanlarda faaliyetlerde bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmada Mütareke Dönemi’nde İstanbul’da kurulan Arnavud Teâvün Cemiyeti ele alınmıştır. Bu kapsamda Cemiyetin kuruluş aşaması, şube ağını genişletme çalışmaları; siyasi, kültürel ve eğitim alanındaki faaliyetleri incelenmiştir. Sadece Osmanlı Hükümetinin değil, aynı zamanda Millî Mücadele’nin merkezi Ankara’nın da Cemiyetin faaliyetlerine yönelik hassasiyeti tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada ayrıca Arnavutların bu dönemde İstanbul’da kurdukları diğer cemiyet ve derneklere de değinilmiştir. Tüm bunlar başta arşiv belgeleri olmak üzere dönemin basını ve ikinci el kaynaklar üzerinden ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
