It is known that there was a Baburid-Ottoman relationsince the Babur Period. However, this relation was not improved well since theydid not expect a political interest from eachother. However, it is seen that thisrelation was improved during the reign of Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan had the aim ofcreating a Sunni alliance and include the Ottomans into this alliance to recaptureQandahar, seized by the Shia Safavid. Inthisway, he was planning to gain the Ottoman’strust and psychological support. The Babur Empire set his sights on those politicalaims by establishing diplomatic relations with the Ottoman Empire. The aim ofthis study is to shed some light on how the Babur-Ottoman diplomatic relations improvedduring the reign of Shah Jahan by focusing on the political atmosphere of the relevantperiod and by analysing the discourse of the Ottoman Emperor.
Babür döneminden itibaren Babürlü-Osmanlı ilişkilerininvarlığı bilinmektedir. Bu ilişkiler, taraflardan birinin diğerinden veya herikisin birbirinden siyasi bir çıkar beklememesi nedeniyle çok gelişmemişti.Ancak, Şah Cihan döneminde bu ilişkilerin süreklilik kazandığını görüyoruz. ŞahCihan, Şiî Safevilerin ele geçirdiği Kandahar’ı geri almak içinSünni bir ittifak bloğu oluşturmak, Osmanlıları da bu bloğa dahil etmekistiyordu. Bu şekilde onların askeri veya moral desteğini almayı planlıyordu. Babürlühükümdarı, Osmanlılarla diplomatik ilişkiler kurmak suretiyle bu siyasi amaçlarınaerişme yoluna gitti. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Şah Cihan devrinde Babürlü-Osmanlıdiplomatik ilişkilerinin dönemin siyasi atmosferine ve Osmanlı hükümdarınınkullanmış olduğu üsluba göre nasıl şekillendiğini aydınlatmaktır.
