In the study, the sustainability index is estimated via financial indicators of the companies in the BIST Sustainability Index, and it is investigated whether a more objective and easily computable index could be achived by comparing the current sustainability index with the index values obtained as a result of the proposed method. The research sample consists of 48 companies that are included in the Sustainability Index for the period of 2014-2019. The alternative sustainability index is estimated by using artificial neural networks. An effective method is determined by comparing the sustainability index estimates carried out. Artificial neural network management is used effectively in sustainability index estimation as a prediction tool that is found to be successful in modeling nonlinear systems. According to the results of the study, it is revealed that the data used for each of the training, verification and testing stages in the artificial neural network are above or very close to the regression line, and it is seen that the ANN model could be used as an effective estimation tool in calculating the BIST Sustainability Index.
