Academic quality rankings of higher education systems have been launched by certain institutions. It is observed that certain countries which are placed higher in these rankings also accomodate higher education institutions which are placed higher in the rankings of higher education institutions. This shows that a good system of higher education fosters the development of successful higher education institutions. Thus, it is imperative to explore the countries which have stronger education systems and take lessons for the future. The higher education systems of the US, England, Canada and the Netherlands are placed in the top 10 in the rankings of higher education systems.
The purpose of this study is to explore the exemplary aspects of the higher education systems of the aforementioned countries. On the whole, the higher education systems of these countries possess higher levels of autonomy and thus, they accomodate administration committees. These administration committees follow a participative management styles and encompass experts from a wide range of fields. The appointment for administrative positions involves a merit based selection and support process. It is crucial to follow a merit based selection process for administrative positions while encouraging a more autonomous higher education system by enabling the participation of experts from a wide range of fields especially for the benefit of Turkey.
