Dünyada toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliğinin sağlanması için eğitime yönelik yapılan yatırımlar ön plana çıkmaktadır. Ancak gelişmekte olan ya da geri kalmış ülkelerde bu yatırımların sekteye uğradığı görülmektedir. Halbuki cinsiyet eşitliği eğitimlerinin toplumlarda büyük farklar yarattığı bilinmektedir. Bu noktadan hareketle çalışmada, Şehir ve Bölge Planlama müfredatına yeni dahil edilen “Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliği ve Planlama” dersinin çıktılarının irdelenerek sosyal katkısının açığa çıkarılması amaçlanmaktadır. Dersi alan lisans öğrencilerinin eğitim öncesi, eğitim süreci ve eğitim sonrasında cinsiyet eşitliğine ilişkin algı ve tutumları; toplumsal cinsiyet, toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri, kadına yönelik şiddet eğilimleri, medya, cinsiyet algısı ve ayrımcılık, eğitimde cinsiyet temelli eşitlik, çalışma yaşamı, siyasal katılım, cinsiyet eşitliğinin hukuki boyutu, kentsel mekânda cinsiyete dayalı ayrışma olmak üzere dokuz başlıkta değerlendirilmektedir. Bu başlıklara ilişkin veriler; anket, sınıf içi katılımlı görüşme ve görsel ifade yöntemleri kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Mevcut literatürün aktarılması ve sınıf içinde deneyimlerin paylaşılması öğrencilerin toplumsal cinsiyet üzerine daha fazla düşünmelerini sağlamış, sosyal yaşamda ve kentte çeşitli eşitsizlikleri görünür kılmıştır. Ders/eğitim sonrasında planlama öğrencilerinin özellikle toplumsal cinsiyet eşitliği, aile içi şiddet, sosyal yaşama katılım ve toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin algı ve tutumlarında değişiklik gözlenmiştir. Gelecekte kenti, kentsel mekanları ve dolaylı olarak yaşantımızı tasarlayacak planlama öğrencilerinin, kadınların dezavantajlılığına yönelik farkındalık kazanması bu çalışmanın en önemli çıktısıdır.
Investments in education to achieve gender equality are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide. However, such investments are hindered in developing or underdeveloped countries. On the other hand, it is known that education programs on gender equality create substantial change in societies. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the outputs of the “Gender Equality and Planning” course included in an Urban and Regional Planning curriculum and reveal its social contributions. The perceptions and attitudes of undergraduate students who took the course regarding gender equality before, during, and after the course were examined in the context of nine domains, which were gender, gender roles, trends of violence toward women, the media, gender perceptions and discrimination, gender-based equality in education, professional life, political participation, the legal aspects of gender equality, and gender- based segregation in urban spaces. Data about these domains was collected using questionnaires, in-class participatory interviews, and visual expression techniques. Addressing the relevant literature and sharing experiences in the classroom allowed the participants to think more thoroughly about gender and made various forms of inequality in social life and the city more visible to them. After the course/program, changes were observed in the perceptions and attitudes of the participants, especially regarding gender equality, domestic violence, participation in social life, and gender roles. The most important outcome of this study was that students of a planning department, who will design cities, urban spaces, and ultimately our experiences in the future, gained awareness regarding the disadvantaged position of women.
