JOURNAL OF TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
CALL FOR PAPERS: ETYMOLOGY/DERIVATION (İŞTİKAK)
Etymology, a quest for the origins of words is a journey full of mystery. It is an elaborate and interesting field of study that deals with subjects such as the original form of a word, its emergence, and which meanings it bears from past to present. Etymology refers to “information on the initial and authentic content of a word.” The word “iştikak,” which is derived from the Arabic verb “şakk” (dividing into branches, splitting), has the same connotation as etymology and is known as “köken bilgisi” (the study of the origin of words)” in Turkish. Since ancient times, the origin of words has been examined numerous times and is problematic in the study of linguistics and scholars have continuously interpreted issues on this subject.. Furthermore, humanity has sought the origins of a number of words in accordance with their internal dynamics and created a folk etymology. The Journal of Turkish Language and Literature’s June 2019 issue will feature articles on the theme of etymology. We would like to invite you to contribute to our journal with your valuable articles.
