Psikolojik Danışman Adaylarının Kariyer Gelişim Öyküleri

Öz

The
purpose of the current investigation was to evaluate in a more specific way the
various factors revealed in individual career stories from counseling
candidates.  To accomplish this task
career stories were collected from 82 undergraduate counseling candidates from
two universities.  All of the career
stories were solicited as class assignments from third year students taking a
Career Counseling Practicum class. This qualitative study employed content
analysis of the collected career stories in an attempt to document the major
factors affecting career choice for the subjects.  The most frequently mentioned factor
affecting initial career choice was personal interest illustrated by references
to strong social interactions, learning about others. Frequently mentioned by
the participant were career related messages from parents and teachers. Most of
respondents mentioned the impact of university exam as having played a
significant role in their personal career choice. Despite the fact that chance
was the least frequently mentioned factor, it was cited by more than one-third
of respondents.  Although not
specifically related to career choice, analysis of so many personal career
selection stories provided the opportunity to gain a view of the process
