Following an analysis of the major causes of the informal economy and informal (unregistered) employment, it endeavors to investigate the adverse effects of informal employment on workers, employers and the economy in general, together with the measures to combat its expansion as well as public policies which should be implemented to eradicate it. In trying to shed light on the basic reasons for the emergence of informal employment, arguments raised in favor of its existence are also dealt with. While referring to the difficulties encountered in the fight against informal employment, the article aims to emphasize that its adverse consequences outweigh the possible benefits, construed to mean that serious efforts are needed to combat unregistered employment in Turkey.

}, number={53}, publisher={İstanbul Üniversitesi}
