AB  - İnsanlığın felsefi birikiminde, özellikle ilk dönemlerden bu yana, ençok tartışılan meselelerden biri dış dünyanın bilgisini nasıl edindiğimizdir.Thales’den itibaren “Alemin ilk maddesi nedir?” sorusu eksenindeyapılmaya başlayan tartışmalar, Aristoteles ile, atomculuk ve tümel-tikel yada Birinci ve İkinci Nitelikler (cevher-âraz) ilişkisi çerçevesinde yoğunlukkazanmaya başlamıştı.1 Önceleri mantık ve ontoloji sahasında başlayanmüzakareler, daha sonra epistemolojik bir konum almaya başladı. Mantıkalanında düşünülebilen her şeyin önce bir “tek olan” şeklindetasarlanabileceği, hiç bir “tek olan”ında başka tek olanlarla özdeş olmadığınıtekil kavramı ile ifade edilir. Buna karşılık, “tek olan”lar arasında, sahipoldukları ortak özellikler bakımından bir özdeşlik kurarak elde edilenkavram, genel terimi ile karşılanır.
