Dobruja was the homeland of the Gagauz community, who were Turkish-speaking Christians belonging to the Greek Orthodox Church. Gagauz community was defined as a separate group among Turks because of their religion. Wittek explains the origin of the Gagauz and their conversion to Christianity by using the Ibn Bibi’s sources which contain the history of XIII.
