Sismological instruments were provided and a commission including AristidisCoumbary Efendi (director of the observatory), Emile Lacoine (technicaladvisor), the architectRaimondo D’Aronco, G.Agamennone and an officerwere appointed to undertake the construction. According to the dailynewspaper Moniteur Ottoman, the observatory would be builtin Üsküdar. Itseemsthateventually the gardensof the Silahhane, thearmory atMaçka, wasconsideredmore appropriate for such a project. Thispaper will introduce thearchitectural projects of 1895for the construction of a new observatory inIstanbul.
